Thread: My 1968 Camaro Build-up

Hey everyone my name's Joe and I bought a 1968 Camaro quite a few years ago that my Father and I have been restoring together for the past couple years. It has been a long work in progress but its coming along slowly but surely. Future plans are to build it pro-touring style with beefier suspension, possibly coilovers, tubular arms, biggers brakes front and rear and some bigger wheels and tires.

I'll keep updating this thread along the build as we go but to start here are a few photos of the Camaro shortly after I purchased it and had already started doing some work to it like some bodywork, cowl hood and a few other things:

Yes its an original California car and I bought it from a guy in Southern California many years ago. Its very solid no rust which is real nice. It originally had a 307 small block chevy with a 2-speed powerglide. Since then however I pulled that motor and trans and dropped in a 396 big block chevy with a turbo 400 trans. Here are some photos of the 396. It was bored .30 over block and is an original 1968 date code 396 block. It has a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy Cam with an Edlebrock aluminum intake and 750 CFM Edlebrock carburetor. This motor makes it a great driver with a real smooth power band and that 396 has a ton of low end torque. Here are the motor pics:

Here are some photos when we pulled out the 307 small block motor and were in the process of dropping in the 396 big block. Got the motor mounts and other Camaro parts to do the install from Classic Industries. Everything fit real nice and snug I just had to do some clearancing on the header tubes to make them fit properly but overall they fit good too. My pops is awesome always there to help me work on the cars when I need it thanks Dad you rock!
